Queerly Beloved NC

Duke Memorial UMC and Calvary-Resurrection UMC would like to invite you to be a part of a special worship service on September 29th, at the end of the Pride: Durham weekend. From the sermon, to the prayers, to the community liturgy, to the music, the service will be led by persons who identify as part of the queer community. We seek to create a space where God's radical love for queer bodies can be joyously expressed by voices that have been kept quiet for too long: a worship service for queer people, led by queer people, and open to all of God's children, regardless of age, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, citizenship status or body capability.

Pride Dance Party

Calling all queers and non-queers. We are continuing our Pride Dance Party ritual this year! So get excited 🤩. We welcome everybody who is in support of the LGBT 🏳️‍🌈 community and is willing to shake their booty to some good music. Last year we had almost 200 guest come through, so let’s make it happen again this year!

✨Here’s what you need to know...

1) Dress code is PRIDE! 🌈 Refrain from coming naked. I don’t think the security would like that.

2) Doors open 9PM-2AM.

3) There is a $10 cover because we don’t believe in inflation like some of the other bars in downtown... (yes, I’m throwing shade). However, all proceeds will benefit non-profit organization so your money is going to a good cause!

4) The location is Social Games and Brews, 1007 W Main St. Durham, NC 27701

5) There will be a Mystery DJ. I guess you can say he/she/they are in the closet 😜

Queer Lens: an All-Queer Art Show

Queer Lens: Queer Identity in Art
September 27th through October 31st, 2019

A collaboration between the LGBTQ Center of Durham and Pleiades Arts, Queer Lens is a juried visual art exhibit featuring work by LGBTQ+ identified artists of North Carolina. Queer Lens will highlight the diverse perspectives, identities, and creations of the LGBTQ+ community, centering the voices of black and brown artists in particular. The show will debut during Pride weekend at The Fruit in Durham, and later be displayed at the LGBTQ Center of Durham through the month of October.

Artists of any skill-set and background – community members, students, beginners, experts – are encouraged to submit up to two (2) works of any medium, such as sculpture, painting, installation, audio-visual, photography, or performance. Work must be original. The primary criteria is that the artist be Queer-identified, and that their work relate to the theme of the exhibition.

A grant in support of this exhibit was awarded to Pleiades Arts & the LGBTQ Center of Durham, by the Durham Arts Council’s Annual Arts Fund and the N.C. Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural & Cultural Resources.
