Queer Lens: Queer Identity in Art
September 27th through October 31st, 2019

A collaboration between the LGBTQ Center of Durham and Pleiades Arts, Queer Lens is a juried visual art exhibit featuring work by LGBTQ+ identified artists of North Carolina. Queer Lens will highlight the diverse perspectives, identities, and creations of the LGBTQ+ community, centering the voices of black and brown artists in particular. The show will debut during Pride weekend at The Fruit in Durham, and later be displayed at the LGBTQ Center of Durham through the month of October.

Artists of any skill-set and background – community members, students, beginners, experts – are encouraged to submit up to two (2) works of any medium, such as sculpture, painting, installation, audio-visual, photography, or performance. Work must be original. The primary criteria is that the artist be Queer-identified, and that their work relate to the theme of the exhibition.

A grant in support of this exhibit was awarded to Pleiades Arts & the LGBTQ Center of Durham, by the Durham Arts Council’s Annual Arts Fund and the N.C. Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural & Cultural Resources.
