The House of Kanautica Presents: A Fundraiser!

Admission: $10-15 sliding scale
(no one turned away)

Kanautica Zayre Brown is a 37 year old Black trans woman currently incarcerated in a men’s prison in North Carolina. The NC Department of Public Safety has denied her request for transfer to a women’s facility. After increased public pressure, DPS placed Kanautica in solitary confinement for 25 days, we believe in response to Kanautica’s self-advocacy and increased media attention to her case. This show is more than a fundraiser for a community leader, it’s an opportunity to come together and be joyful when we are told again and again that we should disappear.

Hear performances from three local poets (Tommi Hayes, Saint Jay, and Nathaniel Bush). Be dazzled by local drag legend Asia (of the Body Party), and be hypnotized by dancer and rapper Asa (of the House of Coxx). Later on in the night, dance to Raleigh local Gudiya’s smooth alternative grooves, and get taken over by Neuron Husky’s trance-inducing beats.

Or hang out on the back patio and learn how to get involved in local organizing! Write a letter to Kanautica at our letter writing station, tweet the Governor and and check out the work of Saif Wideman and Miki Mann, two local trans artists who are generously donating all their proceeds from the night.

Please share this event with all your friends and get ready for an amazing night.
